This beautiful tree was a great joy to us when we first bought the house here in September 2011. I took this picture in November last year because we were told the tree was to be destroyed; apparently its roots were damaging the building. The last branches were burning on Sunday 3 March 2013.
In reading over your Blog, I see you bought your house the same month and year I moved into mine to start my gardens. Sorry about the tree that died. We think they will live forever, but nothing does. Hope you always enjoy your new memorial garden - nice idea. Jack

Hi Jack - thanks for taking the trouble to look and comment. Funny that we arrived in our new houses at the same time. All best for your garden...

I really enjoyed reading this blog. What a fantastic garden you have. Love the photos. Do keep adding them Cathy. Gill
Thanks for visiting Gill - of course many of the pictures are not actually of our garden, but of our neighbours' gardens, because we live in such a beautiful village. But glad you enjoyed. Hope there is a link on your name, in which case will visit you soon in your own garden!

I learned to love plants many years ago when I gardened in London, but I started to learn how to garden properly when we came to this steep, south-facing slope in rainy north-east France in 2011.
